I found Sweeter than Chocolate to be
an incredible study. It was totally relevant to my life right now. It’s amazing how
God was able to highlight certain points from Psalm 119 by
repeating them in other areas of my life. Sometimes it was through the pastor’s
message at church, or in my quiet time Bible reading, but most explicitly in my
life activities. For example, one big issue in my life is my propensity to worry.
Some who are close to me would say I am a professional worrier. This is an area God
has really been working on in my life. This summer while on vacation, we were
visiting a very busy city where the primary transportation is the metro train
system. At one point in our sightseeing, our 14-year old daughter got separated
from my husband and me and ended up on a train without us. We were reunited maybe 5
minutes later during which time my husband and daughter nearly fell apart. Knowing
how I usually react, they were both amazed to find me the epitome of calm. I knew
in my heart that she was in God’s hands and He would take care of her, so there was
no need to worry. I’m learning to meditate on God’s truths, as the psalmist did,
rather than worry.

The Sweeter than Chocolate study
of Psalm 119 was like seeing someone else experience God the way I’m
supposed be experiencing Him myself. There was so much useful application in every
lesson, not like waiting for the end of a class and wondering “How does this affect
me?” I felt encouraged, challenged, convicted and free many times throughout the
study. My most favorite lesson that I learned is that God wants me to delight in
Him, that He is to be delighted in. Somehow, along the way of studying, I had lost
that valuable piece of joy. It was a very sweet class, indeed.

Through the words of David, who has bared his soul to his God and to us, comes the
sweet reassurance of God’s Word as the answer to all our questions, fears and
doubts. Just like a piece of chocolate gives us that taste of sweet, smooth,
definitive flavor, God’s Word is sweet, soothing to the soul, and definitive in its
message. The Hebrew structure of this psalm reminds us of our roots, the Israel of
God’s chosen people, who have been given His message, and we are privileged to get
that same message today. Pam presents this study in her own “flavor” of insight,
humor, knowledge and application. Highly recommended to all who want to “taste and
see that the Lord is good.”

Anytime I study the Bible inductively I gain so much more insight
than any other method I have tried. Doing it with Pam, though, gets
me digging even deeper. Everything in the Word means something.
Pam's style, enthusiasm and compelling love for God and His Word
helps one find the little nougats; it is like discovering the key in the
top of a box of chocolates so you know what delicious filling is inside
each one.

Studying with Pam has been a blessing. This study really helped me to
refocus on the significance of God's word. Pam has done great job providing
not only the meaningful study of Psalm 119 but also has provided
tools for those who want to go deeper and deeper.
Excellent work.

"Sweeter than Chocolate" is a sweet, practical, and hope-inspiring
study of Psalm 119. I came into the study with a huge need to
re-connect with the power of God's Word. Every week I came away excited with new
insight into how much God treasures us and how much I wanted to treasure Him by
delving ever more deeply into His Word. It met me at the point of my need in a fun
and challenging way! Some weeks I did the basic homework, and other times I "dug
deeper." It was so flexible! I would recommend this study to anyone needing to grow
in their love of scripture.

Pam and I met when I was a MOPS Coordinator and her first book, No More
Excuses! An Almost Too Practical Guide to Reading the Bible, had just
been published. I invited Pam to speak to our MOPS group-- her presentation was
great-- she is down-to-earth, practical, REAL. During her presentation, Pam
introduced me to the concept of inductive Bible study. That concept stayed in my
mind, but I did not know what to do about it. In the meantime, God was working on
me in many ways.
Fast forward a few years: Our church office manager, Barbara, and I were
longing for a deeper understanding of God's Word; we attended a Lord... Bible
study by Kay Arthur, but we still wanted more. We both knew Pam, and Barbara asked
her to come and lead a Precept Upon Precept study at our church. She did--
she actually lead two!
Pam's teaching style is that of one who wants her students to hear what God has
to say, not what she has to say. In writing her own inductive studies, Pam is
following God's call on her life to encourage us to read, study, understand, and
apply the Word of God in our own lives. Her six week Sweeter Than
Chocolate study brings us into Psalm 119 and
encourages us to see for ourselves, taste for ourselves, how wonderful and
fulfilling the Word of God is. For all you guys out there, if chocolate isn't
your thing, imagine the Word of God being as satisfying and hunger fulfilling as a
perfectly cooked steak and side of fabulous potatoes. God's Word is sweet, but it
is the meat in our lives.
Pam has a passion for God's Word; she truly believes it is sweeter than
chocolate and Pam LOVES chocolate!
For me, "I have strayed like a lost sheep. Seek [me], your servant, for I
have not forgotten your commands." (Psalm 119:176, NIV)
